How to Capture Video Clips in Windows 10?

    Every once in a while, browsing through the web or playing a fantastic new game, we want to capture a moment of it. To capture a moment of your computer screen on Windows 10, we can record the screen and get a video, but how?

    Windows has built-in video capture software for the screenshot because now Windows OS is more compatible with Xbox Gaming consoles.

    This feature is a part of the Windows Xbox app. It's a compatibility feature for Windows and Xbox consoles. This video capture software gives you the ability to stream, take screenshots, capture video clips, and much more.

    The screen recording tool in windows can record the screen of almost any application downloaded/installed from Windows Store or any third-party source in Windows OS, but some apps like File Manager are exceptions. Even more, the Xbox app is only pre-installed on Windows laptops. If you have installed Windows 10 on your Desktop PC, the Xbox app might not be pre-installed.

    However, you can install the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. In this article, we will learn how to record screens using the Xbox app, the OBS Studio app, and the Share X App, then you can decide which one you like and try them.

    • Firstly, open up the game or whatever app you want to record, then press the Windows Key + G Keys on your keyboard to bring the Game bar on your screen. A prompt will appear on your screen asking you want to open the Game bar or not. Check the Yes, and this is a game checkbox to confirm.

    • The game bar will appear on your screen. It will be on top of every window open right now. Now, to start the screen recording, click on the Start Recording Icon on the game bar. Once the recording has been started, the icon will turn red as an indication.

    • After you have finished recording, to stop it click on the Red Recording Bar appearing on the top-right of your screen. However, you can also press the Win + G again to stop the recording.

    • The screen recording videos captured will be found in the Videos folder, located in the Home folder. Moreover, you can also find the videos from the Xbox application. Open up the Xbox app from the start menu and click on the Game DVR tab on the window's left pane. The benefit of opening the Videos in an Xbox app is that you can trim the video clip and can share the video clip through Xbox live.

    • Since the Xbox app also lets us take screenshots, we would like to share how to do it using the Xbox app. To take a screenshot, you can open the Game bar first and then click the Camera icon, or you can also press the Windows Key + Alt + PrtScr keys at the same time on your keyboard to take a Screenshot of your current screen.

    OBS Studio is an excellent open-source video capture software application that can capture video clips. It is an amazing tool that comes with many features that give you the ability to stream on any streaming site. Also, OBS gives you the ability to record, save and edit the video in OBS.

    Moreover, it also has some editing functionalities for Audio, OBS exports videos in all the formats you would probably need.

    • Firstly, open up your Web Browser and visit the site obsproject.com, which is OBS's official site. Go there and download the windows installer. Install OBS in your Windows 10, and once done, open the application from the Desktop icon. Or you can search for OBS in the Windows Search Bar.

    • In the OBS application, look if there is any Scene created at the bottom-left of the screen. If not, click on the Plus icon to create a new Scene. Give it a name if you want to.

    • Then move to the second column after Scene, Sources. There click on the Plus button below, and from the menu, select the option Display Option or Screen Capture. A pop-up will appear to click on the OK button to continue, and from the second pop-up, you can select the Screen resolution. Moreover, you can check or uncheck the Capture Cursor if you don't want the cursor during the recording.

    • To select the output folder for the captured video clips, click on the Settings button on the right bottom pane of the window. In the pop-up window, select the Output tab on the left pane. Now, in the recording section, click on the Browse button beside the label Recording Path. Moreover, you take note of the default directory.

    • Click on the OK button below in the settings window and click on the Start Recording button at the bottom-right to record your screen. Double click the OBS icon on the system tray to minimize the application while recording. Right-click in the OBS on the system tray, select the Stop recording option from the submenu to stop the recording.

    Capture Video Clips using ShareX App

    ShareX app is another great video capture software application for Windows 10 that features utility for Screen recording and Screen Capturing. The app supports numerous features, such as you can upload the captured Video clips or screenshots discreetly to any cloud service. Furthermore, the app provides some primary image and video editing tools like crop, trim, etc.

    Lastly, the Sharex app allows you to share the screen recordings and screenshots to all major social media platforms.

    To install the ShareX app open your Web Browser and visit getsharex.com. It's their official site. Download the Windows OS installation file. Install the ShareX app and launch it.

    At first, the ShareX App might be minimized in the system tray, therefore right-click on the ShareX icon and select the Screen Record option from the menu to start capturing your screen.

    You can also left-click on the icon and open the ShareX Application window for path settings, cloud settings, and other configurations. You can double-click on the system tray ShareX icon to minimize the application window.

    The default path where ShareX saves the video clips and screenshots is the Video folder in the Home Directory, in the subfolder names ShareX. The application is simpler to use than OBS, but it lacks some features that OBS has, although it also has some features that OBS lacks, like directly upload video captured to a Cloud service.

    So, if you are finding the instructions to use OBS a bit difficult, you should download and install ShareX.
