    What is Windows Task Manager?

When you are using several programs at a time, all the user-controlled processes join a whole host of default processes that are already running in the background. Generally, you might find that the text editor with an open document, your media player with the movie that you stopped in between, the browser with all its open tabs and the email client might all be running in the background at the same time. Yes, you can see these applications in the form of their symbols on the taskbar, but discerning their impact on the performance of the PC might be a little tough for you, at first glance.

The impact that all these running apps have on the performance of your PC can be understood very well by the Windows Task Manager, which offers an overview of all the applications running in the background. Also, if you note that an application is running unnecessarily, you can just close it immediately from the Task Manager itself.

Here we have a quick overview of all the important tasks of the Task Manager:

    • A process’s CPU and memory utilization.
    • A process’s data carrier utilization
    • Network load triggered by a process
    • A process’s power consumption
    • Listing programs with enabled auto-start.

You can use this information to spot a program that is running at high capacity but you do not need, so you can deactivate it directly from the Task Manager or uninstall it from your computer.

You can bring up Task Manager very easily, but there are a number of ways to do it. Some of them might come in handy if your preferred way to open it is failing you.

    Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete

    Keyboard shortcut for task manager

Most people are familiar with the three-finger salute, i.e. Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Till before Windows Vista was released, if you pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Windows would bring you directly to the Task Manager. But now, it is a little different. When you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete now, it will show a Windows Security screen providing options for locking your PC, signing out, switching users and running Task Manager.

    Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc

The absolute quickest way to open Task Manager is to just press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. This also has an added advantage, where you can open up the Task Manager pretty quickly while working inside a virtual machine.

Press Windows+X To Access The Power User Menu

You can access the Power User menu on Windows 8 and Windows 10 by pressing the Windows + X. Using the power menu, you can access all kinds of utilities, that includes also the Task Manager.

The executable file for Task Manager is called "taskmgr.exe". You can type "taskmgr" in the Start menu search box and then hit the Enter key, and Task Manager is opened.
